THE CORONA TIMES.

THE MAGICAL CURE

SPOILER ALERT! This is NOT about any magical cure to Corona virus, read on if you want to know what is the cure for…

Its Day 5 of the social distancing forced upon us by COVID19. Our Prime Minister has consulted all the experts and decided this is the best way to deal with the problem… and I have been working from home like many of you.

Its a lazy afternoon, I have just finished all my “important” official calls, having lunch. Out of nowhere, my daughter starts telling me that she is writing an article! That is the time I remember dusting my age old laptop and giving it to her “to do anything she wants with it”.

She goes on to tell me that this article is about what is corona? how is it spreading? and what we should do etc. I listen patiently (mind training for a few months helped). At the end of it I got curious and asked her “why are you doing this?”

She thought for sometime and said “because I like it”. I studied her, and came to an understanding she has not fully divulged her motive. Here comes the prodding, I ask her “what if no one read what you write? Will you still be happy?”

She was lost in thought, that is the moment I chose to tell her about how I had once tried climbing the highest branch of a mango tree and felt happy. I then had tried to climb all trees in front of my friends showing off how high I could climb. They were awed, excited and even cheered me at first. As I kept doing this, their interest tapered off and soon they were indifferent to what i was doing. In the process I got angry at them and started fighting with them. Of course, I made up with all of them by the evening as we were friends and forgot all about the showing off.

I ended my thought by telling her that I might feel I was stupid then to do something like that, but I did it anyway and I am not ashamed of any of it.

At the end of all this my daughter just got up and said “good for you”.

Really, it was good for me. For I sat there feeling a little (rather a lot!) better about myself and the time I spent.

It is not often that we get to spend time with our kids, more importantly they get time to spend with us (what with all the tech and all). So whenever you get time, just start a conversation with them. Nothing cures boredom and ache as good as that!

… with that Happy Social Distancing! Go Corona Go!
